Box Score SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican men's basketball fell 76-71 to Holy Names Friday night at the Conlan Center

Jeremiah Gray led the Penguins (5-18, 4-12 PacWest) with 15 points. Alonzo Taylor led the Hawks (10-18, 6-11 PacWest), finishing with 17 points.

Christian Futch underneath for an easy layup to give Dominican a 10-8 lead early on. Freshman Chris Williams II followed with a 3-pointer from the top of the key to stretch the Penguins' lead to five. A couple of minutes later, freshman
Romeo Mays finished off a difficult drive with a layup between a pair of Holy Names defenders to put Dominican ahead 17-13 at the under-12 media timeout.
Later in the half, Futch grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back in to give the Penguins a 23-17 lead. Dominican continued to pound the offensive glass as Gray rebounded a missed dunk by Futch before driving the lane and banking one in. Just a few possessions later, Mays rebounded a Penguins' miss and was able to keep his balance for a tough finish to make it 29-21. With just a few minutes remaining in the half, Gray hit a tough 3-pointer from the top of the key and
Jordan Williams completed an and-1 in transition to help Dominican take a 39-29 lead into the break.
The Hawks began chipping away at their deficit early in the second half as Andre Green put in a layup to make it 44-40 at the under-16 media timeout. Shortly after that, Bobby Kazar spun off a Penguin defender to finish in the paint and bring Holy Names within 45-44. Dominican responded with consecutive baskets from Gray and junior CJ Thomas to stretch the Penguins' lead back to five.
After Dominican briefly fell behind 52-51 on a layup from Kazar, Williams II responded with a 3-pointer to allow the Penguins to regain the lead midway through the half. Alonzo Taylor quickly answered with a triple of his own as the Hawks seesawed back in front, 55-54. Holy Names continued to shoot it well from deep as Taylor buried another triple and Jaime Strong followed with one of his own to put the Hawks ahead 61-56 with just over seven minutes remaining in the game.
Taylor remained hot down the stretch, pouring in another 3-pointer to give Holy Names a 66-58 lead and forcing Dominican to take a timeout with just over five minutes to play. Out of the break, Williams II hit a 3-pointer to bring the Penguins back within five.
Jordan Williams followed with a jumper to make it 66-63, leading to a timeout from the Hawks.
With less than three minutes to play, Kyvonte Adams and Jewels Sanders knocked down back-to-back triples to stretch the Hawks' lead to 72-63, helping to seal the game for Holy Names.
