Mariah Meza scored her fourth goal in the last three games, but Dominican women's soccer fell 4-1 Wednesday to Hawaii Pacific at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Park.
The Penguins (5-8-2, 3-6-1 PacWest) held a 6-4 advantage on corner kicks, while the Sharks (7-8-1, 3-7-1 PacWest) held a slim 13-10 advantage in shots.
Gabriella Tassano started the game for Dominican and made four saves, while
Alyssa Ramos added two saves in her 32 minutes played in the second half.
Ivy Torres found Meza on a corner kick in the third minute and Meza headed it in to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead. The Penguins held the Sharks to two shots on goal over the next 40 minutes with Tassano making the save both times, but Ebony Madrid knocked down a deflected ball and put it past Tassano to tie the game in the 43rd minute.
Tassano made two more saves in the 50th and 54th minute, but Hi'ilani Thomas found the ball in a scramble in front of the net after her second save and put it into the back netting for a 2-1 lead. The Sharks added goals in the 71st and 75th minute to increase the lead to 4-1.
Tianna Brown got a foot on a Torres corner in the 89th minute, but Alannah John made the save for the Sharks.
Dominican will wrap up its Hawai'i trip Saturday against Hawai'i Hilo at 12:30 p.m. HST at the UHH Soccer Field. Live stats will be available online.
