Box Score SAN RAFAEL, Calif -- Dominican women's soccer dominated on offense as they prevailed 4-2 Thursday afternoon over Holy Names at Kennelly Field.
 
The Penguins (4-7-2, 2-5-1 PacWest) more than doubled the Hawks (0-10-1, 0-5-1 PacWest) in shot attempts 20-9 and held an 11-7 advantage in shots on goal. Senior Mariah Meza caused havoc on the Holy Names defense, finishing with 11 shots with four on frame. Defensively, junior goalie Gabriella Tassano earned the victory with four saves and allowed two goals. Goalie Alyssa Lopez had seven saves and four goals allowed for Holy Names.
 
The Hawks struck first with a penalty kick goal by Allie Sementelli to the lower left corner in the ninth minute. Four minutes later, Yasmine Angel placed a perfect ball behind the Holy Names defense and Bailey Kiser took the touch and put it past the keeper to tie the game for the Penguins.
 
The Penguins would dominate on offensive possession in the second half and in the 50th minute, junior Michelle Li had her first goal of the season as she beat the keeper to a ball played ahead by Kiser and knocked the ball into the center of the net. This time the Hawks had a quick response when Shelby Johnson took a ball from a defender an fired a 25-yard shot over the hands of Tassano for the goal.
 
Dominican surged in the final 12 minutes of the game to cement the victory. Junior Tianna Brown tallied her third goal of the season in the 78th minute as junior Alyssa Campbell's assist on a free kick went over the keeper's hands and Brown tapped it into the empty net. In the 85th minute, Li slid to just beat a Holy Names defender to a ball and the ball fell to the feet of Meza for her second goal of the season.
 
The Penguins will travel to Hawaii for the week as they face Chaminade in Honolulu Monday at 10 a.m. HST. Live stats and video will be available online.
