Hayes, Schwartz-Edmisten earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — Dominican University of California men's basketball players Matt Hayes and Christopher Schwartz-Edmisten have been named to the 2015-16 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District™ Men's Basketball Team.

Hayes and Schwartz-Edmisten earned two of the five spots on the District 8 team, which is comprised of schools in the West Region. The honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District™ honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third- team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

This is Hayes' second season earning All-District honors. He has earned PacWest Player of the Week honors twice this season. The Yuba City, California native broke 1,000 career points and is now Dominican's all-time DII leader in scoring, field goals made and attempted, threes made and attempted, minutes, and games started. He is a three-time PacWest Academic All-Conference student-athlete. He is averaging 12.2 points per game and a team-high 6.4 rebounds per game. Hayes scored a career-high 30 points in a win at MSU Billings on Nov. 27, 2015.

Schwartz-Edmisten is third in Division II and leads the PacWest in three-point field goal percentage (50.5 percent). He has also earned PacWest Player of the Week honors and is a three-time PacWest Academic All-Conference student-athlete. The Sacramento, California native is averaging a team-high 15.6 points per game and has scored double digits in all but three games. He is also approaching 1,000 career points.

The Academic All-District™ teams and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2015-16 DII Academic All-America® team program.
