Hanson nets brace in non-conference loss at NNU

Megan Hanson scored twice in Dominican's non-conference loss at NNU.
Box Score NAMPA, Idaho — Dominican University of California senior Megan Hanson scored twice but it wasn't enough as the Penguins left Idaho with a 4-2 loss to Northwest Nazarene on Monday afternoon.

The Dominican (0-4-0) offense continued to provide scoring opportunities, matching the 11 shots by NNU (3-1-0) but Lexi Fesenbek and Laura Seymour proved too much for the Penguins. Seymour had a brace with goals in the 51st and 69th minutes and an assist while Fesenbek racked up three assists. Sarah Blum gave the Crusaders an early lead in the 19th minute when she slipped past the defense for a 1 v. 1 opportunity.

Hanson tied the match in the 28th minute. After Mckenna Kimball's shot was blocked and the NNU defense failed to clear the ball, Peyton Jones got a foot on the ball, setting up Hanson's score to tie the match 1-1. Just 22 seconds after Dominican tied the match, Lacey Strickler regained the lead for the Crusaders with a header from the left side off of a Fesenbeck cross. Seymour's two goals stretched the NNU lead to 4-1.

Sophomore Stephanie Pawek, who had two shots with one on goal, assisted on Dominican's second goal, which came in the 78th minute. Hanson headed in Pawek's perfectly-placed corner kick. An Ivy Torres shot in the 84th minute was saved and another Kimball shot in the 85th minute drifted wide right.

The Penguins will have one final non-conference tuneup at home on Friday, Sept. 19. The Penguins host Chico State at 2 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at dominicanathetics.com/live while the team from radio.dominican.edu will have the radio call.
