Box Score ALAMOSA, Colo. — The Dominican University of California rallied from a four-goal halftime deficit to pull off a 13-12 victory in double overtime at Adams State on Friday afternoon.

Kevin Powers netted the game-winner with 3:24 left in double overtime to lift the Penguins (7-2/3-0 WILA) to their tenth consecutive Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association victory dating back to April 28, 2012. That also gave the Penguins the season sweep as well as a five-game winning streak versus the Grizzlies (4-6/2-3 WILA).

"That was a character-builder for us coming back like that," said Head Coach Ned Webster. "The first half was not our best, at all, but we had a constructive chat at halftime, made a some adjustments and played smarter lacrosse the rest
of the way."

Dominican trailed 5-1 at intermission but surged back in the third quarter with a five-goal outburst to take a 6-5 lead. That lead would last less than two minutes, as the Grizzlies answered with three consecutive goals over the next four minutes to regain the lead, 8-6. A Powers goal trimmed the lead to 9-8 to close out the third quarter but the Penguins continued to battle from behind in the final 15 minutes.

Dalton Copeland pulled Dominican back to even with 6:43 left in regulation but the Grizzlies recaptured the lead 17 seconds later. With 1:15 to play, Jake Bernstein found the back of the net to tie the game at 12-12 and give the Penguins new life.

The two teams played scoreless from there on until Power's game-winner. Goalies Reis Stanley and Sean Donohue helped make that possible, combining for 17 saves. Nine of those saves came in the second half, including one in overtime.

Dylan Acevedo also kept the Penguins close by winning 15 of his 23 face-offs and gobbling up a season-high 10 ground balls, including one to begin double overtime.

Powers matched a career high with five goals to lead Dominican and now has a WILA-best 25. Copeland matched a season-high with a hat trick and Grant Clifford netted a pair of goals. Brothers Brock Beall and Jack Beall each had one goal.

Mac Piper led the Grizzlies with five goals on six shots.

"Their head coach, John McCreery, was in surgery during the game, and it
was obvious their players were inspired," said Webster. "They played the best I've ever seen an Adams State team play. Coach McCreery should be proud. I hope he recovers quickly."

The Penguins continue their two-game trip to Colorado with a 12:00 p.m. tilt at Colorado Mesa University on Sunday, April 27.
