This season vs. Chaminade
In the two teams' first meeting on Jan. 6 in Honolulu, Hawaii, the Penguins fell 75-65 after squandering a 12-point halftime lead. Dominican shot 55.6 percent (15-of-27) in the first half but just 30 percent (9-of-30) over the final 20 minutes. The Penguins outrebounded Chaminade 15-11 in the first half but in the end lost the overall battle 30-23. All-PacWest Second Team selection Kuany Kuany went 14-of-15 from the free throw line and led all players with 20 points and 10 rebounds while Dominican was led by
Devin Golston's 23 points and seven rebounds.
Dominican needed overtime to get past Chaminade, 84-83, at home on Jan. 25. The Penguins trailed by seven early but took the lead, 36-31, by halftime. Chaminade held most of the momentum in the second half and held a nine-point lead with 3:10 to play. The Penguins chipped away to force overtime and in the extra period Golston (18 points) hit a jumper in the paint with 11 seconds left to win it for the Penguins.
Matt Hayes had a team-high 21 points and
Christopher Schwartz-Edmisten scored 20 points. All-PacWest Honorable Mention Dominiqe Taplin reeled in a career-high 13 rebounds. All-PacWest First Team selection Lee Bailey led Chaminade with a game-high 22 points.
The Penguins will be without Golston. The Penguins' All-PacWest First Team selection suffered a season-ending knee injury on Feb. 5. They've proven they can do it without a key player before, as
Myles Carrillo (All-PacWest Second Team) exited the second game just two minutes into play with a stiff back.

Scouting Chaminade
Chaminade enters at 18-12 and has won five of its last six, including upsets in the first two rounds of the PacWest Championships over BYU-Hawaii (No. 4 seed) and No. 11 California Baptist (No. 1 seed).
The Silverswords average 82.5 points per game and also allow 80.5 points per game. They grab 40.5 rebounds per game. A decent shooting team, Chaminade shoots 43.6 percent from the field but 39.2 percent from deep. They have reached the free throw line 815 times and have made 70.9 percent of those attempts.
Bailey leads the team with 17.4 points per game. Kuany is averaging 14.0 points per game and a team-best 8.2 rebounds. Kiran Shastri is averaging 13.5 points per game.
Dominican by the Numbers
The Penguins enter at 22-7, the team's best-ever mark in the NCAA Division II era, and are on an 11-game winning streak. Carrillo has the led the Penguins the past two outings with 24 points. Senior
Connor Haysbert (All-PacWest Second Team) and Schwartz-Edmisten have been the Penguins' other leading scorers since Golston's injury on Feb. 5.
Dominican averages 80.4 points per game and allows 75.0 points per contest. Dominican averages 34.8 rebounds per game. The Penguins will need to continue their hot shooting, as they are firing at a 49.5 percent clip. Their outside shooting will be a factor, as Dominican shoots 49.2 percent from deep, led by Carrillo (48-of-100, 48.0 percent), Schwartz-Edmisten (37-of-89, 41.6 percent), and Hayes (68-of-177, 38.4 percent).
Dominique Taplin's 14.1 points per game leads active players. Haysbert's is averaging 13.9 points Carrillo is adding 13.0 points per game. Hayes is also in double digits with 11.9 points.
