Third WILA season set to start with Bay Area matchup

The Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (WILA) will begin its third regular season of men's lacrosse competition next week when all four WILA members open the regular season.

San Francisco Bay Area rivals Dominican University of California and Notre Dame de Namur will square off in what will be the first WILA match-up of the year on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 1:00 p.m. in Belmont, Calif. The Penguins swept last year's season series with the Argos after the teams split games in 2011, a year that saw the Argos win the inaugural WILA title with a 7-1 mark. Both teams have also contested scrimmages earlier this spring.

Adams State College will play the first official game of the season hosting Pace (N.Y.) on Friday, Feb. 22, at 3:00 p.m. in Alamosa, Colo. The Grizzlies also play an exhibition game against the University of Colorado Club Team, a member of the MCLA, this Saturday in Boulder, Colo. and have already scrimmaged NCAA Division I Air Force and NCAA Division III Colorado College.

Defending WILA Champions Colorado Mesa University are also in action this weekend facing both the aforementioned Colorado club squad and the defending MCLA Division I and top-ranked Colorado State University Rams in scrimmages this weekend. They then begin the regular season on Sunday, Feb. 24 when they will face Pace in a neutral-site encounter at Denver University. The Mavericks have met the Setters, who hail from Pleasantville, N.Y., once before, falling 11-7 in their first-ever game on Feb. 21, 2011 in Phoenix, Ariz.
