Women's soccer drops 1-0 decision on Senior Day

Dominican's five senior women soccer players were honored before their final home match on Saturday.
Box Score SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — An Azusa Pacific goal in the 55th minute dampened Senior Day for the Dominican University of California women's soccer team in a tough 1-0 loss for the Penguins

Mayra Almazan's team-leading sixth goal allowed Azusa Pacific to remain unbeaten in PacWest play. The goal came off a free kick that resulted from a foul at the top of the box. Almazan's shot cleared the wall and dipped right past goalie Megan Herring.

Herring made five saves. She was relieved by fellow senior Kelly Calton, who did not face a shot.

Dominican had several runs but Azusa Pacific's speedy defenders were able to break up passes and prevent Dominican from attempting a shot.

A pregame ceremony honored Dominican seniors Kaitlynn Baptista, Kelly Calton, Carrie Freyer, Herring, and Kathryn Ripple.

The Penguins conclude the 2013 campaign at Notre Dame de Namur University next Saturday, Nov. 2. Kickoff is slated for 11:00 a.m. in Belmont, Calif.
