Box Score BELMONT, Calif. — The Dominican University of California men's basketball team earned a key Pacific West Conference victory on Saturday night with a 60-49 victory at Notre Dame de Namur University.
The victory not only improves Dominican's season mark to 10-7 and 6-3 in PacWest play but it also gives Dominican a season sweep and tie-breaking advantage vs. NDNU (5-12/4-5) when it comes time to advance to the PacWest Championships March 7–9 at Azusa Pacific University.

Myles Carrillo gave Dominican its first lead of the game early on and his three-pointer helped extend the lead to eight early before the Argonauts closed the lead to four, 23-19, at halftime.
Carrillo started out the second half as hot as he did in the first half with a jumper to get Dominican going, then took a charge at the other end of the floor to fire up his teammates. Carrillo missed a three but rebounded his own miss, which set up a second chance basket for
Jammall Clark to make it 27-22. A
Matt Hayes fastbreak layup pushed the lead to seven and forced NDNU to call timeout. From there, the Penguins pushed things and led by as large as 18.
It was just the second time in his 69-game career that Carrillo has led the Penguins in scoring but his season-high 14 points were twice as many as any of his teammates on Saturday. Yet it was a team effort, as all 11 players who stepped on the court scored at least two points.
“We were in a rhythm early but they got us a little bit off balance,” said Head Coach
Booker T. Harris, whose staff laced up tennis shoes on the sideline as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer initiative. “Myles really looked for his shot in the second half and once he got going other guys started looking for him also.”
Under Harris, the Penguins are now 14-0 when holding opponents to 62 or fewer points and are 10-2 this season when outrebounding their opponents. The Penguins outrebounded their opponents by four in the first half and 42-25 for the game, led by
Dominique Taplin's eight and seven from Clark.
“Rebounding is something that we talked about at halftime and we wanted to focus on being better at in the second half,” said Harris. “That's what's winning us games right now.”
