Lacrosse Comes Up Short in Battle Between Dominicans

NEPTUNE, NJ — It was a battle between Dominicans on Sunday afternoon as Dominican University of California traveled to face New York's Dominican College but the Penguins came up short, 13-4, against their New York namesakes.

The Chargers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter and added a pair early in the second quarter before Matt Polizzi got the Penguins on the scoreboard. The Chargers' Remo Montalbano scored one of his four goals before halftime to send the Chargers into halftime leading 6-1. Jim Little and Kyle Mitchell scored in the third quarter to cancel out a pair of Charger goals.The Penguins were outscored 5-1 in the final quarter, with Reed Upson connecting with Zach Rodriguez for the goal at the five-and-a-half minute mark.

Cam Evangelho
recorded two assists and Polizzi and  added assists in the loss. Sam Darrow recorded five saves for the Penguins but was charged with the loss.

In addition to his four goals, Montalbano added an assist for the Chargers. Daniel Metoyer and Alex Jones each recorded a hat trick. Metoyer also added a pair of assists in the Chargers victory.

The Penguins were outshot 21-15 and split their 20 faceoffs with the Chargers.

The Penguins continue their four-game tour against East Coast schools on Tuesday, March 9 when they look to avenge a 2009 loss against Molloy College. Faceoff against the Lions is set for 6:00 p.m. Eastern/3:00 p.m. Pacific in Rockville Centre, NY.
