GARDEN CITY, NY — The Dominican University of California men's lacrosse team was outshot 45-22 by Adelphi University and it led to a 17-3 Penguin loss on Thursday afternoon.
The Panthers began their season opener by scoring the game's first three goals.
Cam Evangelho scored with 8:15 in the first to get Dominican (1-5) on the scoreboard. Adelphi clamped down though and held Dominican scoreless for the entire second and third quarters while racking up 14 unanswered goals. The Penguins showed signs of life in the game's final six minutes, netting a goal by
Kyle Mitchell while a man up and another goal by
Zach Rodriguez from
Jim Little.
Sam Darrow made eight saves but was charged with the loss. He was relieved by
Ryan Williams in the second half. Williams made five saves while allowing five goals.
Adelphi won 20-of-24 faceoffs and got to more ground balls, scooping up 46 to the Penguins' 17.
Dominican wraps up its four-game trek against East Coast programs on Saturday, March 13 when the Penguins head to Mercy College. The game will be played at Mountain Lakes HS in Mountain Lakes, NJ. Faceoff is slated for 12:00 p.m. Eastern/3:00 p.m. Pacific.
