Late Goal Not Enough as Lady Penguins Conclude Season

BELMONT, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's soccer team finished the 2010 campaign with a tough 2-1 loss at Notre Dame de Namur University on Sunday. With the loss, the Lady Penguins finish their season with a 7-10-1 overall mark and a 6-7-1 Pacific West Conference record, placing them sixth out of nine teams. NDNU improves to 9-7-2 and finishes a slot above the Lady Penguins at 7-5-2 in PacWest play.

Dominican outshot the Argonauts 6-5 but came up with one less goal. After a scoreless first half, NDNU struck first in the 54th minute on Samantha Paetz's free kick to Andrea Huerta. The Argonauts recorded the game-winner in the 78th minute on a Sarah Biser goal. Freshman Nicole Massoumi put Dominican on the scoreboard late in the match off a corner kick but time ran out on the Lady Penguins.

The Dominican women also held a 6-1 corner kick advantage.

Freshman Michelle Bella led Dominican with five shots, two on goal. Biser and Paetz each had two shots on goal and a goal scored for NDNU.

Saturday marked the final home match in a Dominican uniform for seniors Rita Caskey, Christine Coleman, Bridget Folan, Michelle Mason, Kelly Miura, and Marli Sangervasi.
