BOX SCORE
SAN FRANCISCO — For the fifth time this season, and third consecutive game, the Dominican University of California women's soccer team needed overtime to get a result.
But this time it wasn't the result they were looking for.
Instead a goal on a long arching shot from Emi Sullivan bounced off of the crossbar, over the goalline and out of the goal for the game-winning score that gave the Academy of Art of University a 2-1 win. The lines judge signaled the shot a goal from just inside the 18-yard box.
Dominican Head Coach
Jon Delano said the game against the last place Urban Knights (2-8-1/1-8-0) shouldn't have gotten to that point.
"We can't afford to miss so many one-on-one chances with the keeper," Delano said. "We never found that consistency we've had as of late."
"It was a tough loss," senior captain
Michelle Mason said. "It just shows that we can't underestimate anyone."
The Lady Penguins (3-5-2/3-2-2) fell behind early when Hannah Emmet shocked Dominican with the Urban Knights' first goal in six games, but
Tori Selesia was able to answer three minutes before halftime with the equalizer, her second goal of the season, off a
Katie Brown throw in.
Stephanie Malone had the Lady Penguins' best shot to win on a through-ball from
Julianna Bratsberg with a minute left in the first overtime, but AAU goalkeeper Melissa Co made a diving save.
The fourth place Lady Penguins will play their next five games during a ten day trip to Hawai'i starting with Hawai'i Pacific University (2-7-0/2-4-0) on Thursday, October 14.
