PHOENIX, AZ — Freshman
Reed Upson led all players with five goals for the Dominican University of California men's lacrosse team on Saturday but it wasn't enough as the Penguins fell 20-8 to Westminster College in the first round of the Baggataway Cup. The Penguins were outscored 5-1 in the first quarter, 5-3 in the second quarter, 6-4 in the third quarter, and shutout 4-0 in the fourth quarter. Junior captain
Lawrence Nardi, continued to pace the offense with five assists and a goal of his own. Sophomore captain
Emmett Faricy and freshman
Matt Polizzi rounded out the scoring for Dominican with one goal apiece. Freshman
Corey Botwinick added an assist in the loss.
Josh Condas led Westminster in scoring with four goals.
Dominican falls to 6-8 on the season while Westminster improves to 10-6. The Penguins will look for a victory tomorrow against Grand Canyon University in their final game of the season. Faceoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
Dominican will wrap up the 2009 season with an exhibition game against the Dominican alumni on Saturday, April 25. Faceoff is set for 2:00 p.m. at Forest Meadows Field on the Dominican campus. A pregame barbecue will be hosted beforehand and a postgame gathering will be held at the Mayflower Inn on Fourth Street in San Rafael.
