HONOLULU, HI — The Dominican University of California women's soccer team completed their trip to the Hawaiian Islands with a 2-0 victory at Chaminade University on Saturday.
Mary Wheeler got Dominican (6-8-3/4-5-2) on the board just 34 seconds into play against Chaminade (0-13/0-10) when she netted her team-leading sixth goal of the season off the assist from
Bridget Folan.
Eleanna Mendez added her fifth goal of the season when
Katie Brown made her team-leading sixth assist in the 69 minute of play.
The Dominican defense - including
Christine Coleman,
Michelle Mason, and
Emily Whitaker - stifled the Silver Swords all day. Chaminade mustered just one shot on goal compared to the 26 shots the Lady Penguins blasted, including 13 on frame.
Alicia Paulsen picked up the victory in the net for Dominican, making one save in 80 minutes of play.
Jill Rizo played the final 10 minutes but did not see a ball come her way.
The Lady Penguins return to the mainland and will play their final home match of the season on Oct. 29 against Notre Dame de Namur. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. It is also Senior Day, where captain
Eleanna Mendez will be recognized for her four years of service to the Dominican women's soccer team.
