SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's soccer team used two second-half goals to propel to a 2-0 shutout over host Academy of Art University in Pacific West Conference play on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Penguins (5-6-3/3-3-2) got on the board in the 52 minute when an apparent shot by
Mary Wheeler was deflected by defender Theresa Sianez, resulting in an own goal by AAU (1-11-2/1-6-2) and a 1-0 advantage for Dominican.
At the 71 minute,
Eleanna Mendez's shot found
Katie Brown, whose quick shot towards the lower left of the goal found net for the insurance goal.
Dominican outshot the Urban Knights 13-7, including 8-2 in the second half. The Lady Penguins also held a staggering 11-1 corner kick advantage.
Alicia Paulsen made three saves to record her third shutout of the season.
Dominican now travels to the Hawaiian Islands, where the Lady Penguins will face three PacWest opponents in five days beginning Tuesday.
