Penguins fall to Oaks

ATHERTON, Calif. – Dominican women's tennis fell 4-0 to Menlo Thursday afternoon at Cartan Tennis Courts.

The Oaks (10-5) quickly raced to a team point as Zofia Dziewiecka and Livia Harper took No. 1 singles 6-1 with Gloria Jovic and Ombeline Robilliart adding a 6-1 victory in No. 2 doubles. Things did not get much better for the Penguins (8-8) in singles as Robilliart won 6-0, 6-1 to keep the Menlo momentum rolling.

Dominican held some early leads in singles play, but it came for naught as Zofia Dziewiecka came from behind to defeat Sofia Acuña 6-4, 6-1. Poyla Nikolova topped Ana Rios 6-2, 6-1 seconds later to clinch the match for the Oaks. Lorenza Foster-Simbulan was near victory for the Penguins in No. 6 singles as she won 6-3 in the first set and was leading 5-4 in the second when the match concluded. Deepalakshmi Vanaraja came from behind to win 7-5 in the first set at No. 4 singles with Maria Gavrilov locked into a tight battle in No. 2 singles losing the first set 6-4 while being tied 5-5 in the second set at the end of the match.
