Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Dominican earns fifth conference win, drop the Warriors

Penguins have four players finish in double figures

ROCKLIN, Calif.- Dominican men's basketball (10-7, 5-6) defeated the Warriors of Jessup University Saturday afternoon 72-60 earning their fifth conference dub of the season. The Penguins were led by senior leader Darius Best who went for a game high 16 points on an efficient 6 for 9 from the field.

Fellow senior Nick Medeiros got the scoring started for the Pengs when he found some space in the Warriors defense and knocked down a jumper assisted by teammate Stephen Ransom. Midway through the first Best would score on back-to-back offensive possessions. The North Carolina native would first score on a hard-fought driving lay-up and then he would show off his smooth looking jumper.

Medeiros, the Vallejo native, was second on the team in scoring finishing with 15 points while going a perfect 7 for 7 from the charity stripe. Jessup had no answer for the Penguins aggressive attacking mentality on offense as they went 20-24 from the line, and Medeiros was the leading man in that department. Dominican would finish the first half on a nice run while Mo Toure would cap it off knocking down a wide-open long-range shot assisted by Medeiros. Medeiros would post a game high five assists to go along with his 15 points.

Ransom would get the second half started as he weaved his way past defenders for a nice-looking lay-up. Then it would be Jorge Ochoa driving the ball hard into the paint forcing the Warriors defense to send him to the line where he knocked down both. Ochoa would then knock down a trey to give the black and gold an eleven-point lead. Ochoa and Ransom would round out the top scorers for Dominican as they went for 11 and 10 points while grabbing a combined 11 rebounds.

The Penguins will be back in action Jan. 26th when they host the Menlo Oaks at 7:30 p.m.
