Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Penguins fall to Thunderwolves

PUEBLO, Colo. – Dominican men's soccer fell 2-0 to Colorado State Pueblo in the final game of its road trip Saturday at Art and Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.

The shot attempts were nearly even between the Penguins (1-3-0) and Thunderwolves (2-0-2) with the latter holding an 11-10 advantage, but the big difference was in shots on frame with CSUP holding a 6-2 advantage.

The game was even over the first 10 minutes with each team getting deep into the attacking third and loosing shots, but none on target until Nick Cenek tested Dominican's Collin Nestor in the 13th and 14th minutes with Nestor making the save both times. The momentum shifted towards the Thunderwolves and they kept the pressure up until Leonardo Vilchis Matusalenes found Matty Parkes for a right-footed shot into the upper-right corner of the net for the 1-0 lead in the 30th minute.

The Penguins found a jolt of urgency as Sergio Laguna looked to loose a shot less than a minute later but was blocked on the way through earning the team's first corner kick but CSU Pueblo cleared the ball to keep the lead. Norman Tellez also had a shot blocked in the 37th minute and Jake Kazlauskas was the first to put a shot on frame in the 43rd minute but his low shot found the hands of Esteban Gonzalez in goal and the Thunderwolves carried the lead into the break.

Parkes again found the back of the net in the 52nd minute set up by passes from Logan Cozier and Brandon Sanchez to extend the lead to 2-0. Rolando Gonzalez had a few looks at goal in an effort to close the gap trying to go high, but his first attempt was saved in the 61st minute and the second was off target.

Dominican will return to California and travel north to face Chico State on Thursday at 7 p.m. PDT at University Soccer Stadium.
