Penguins wrap up regular season at CUI

IRVINE, Calif.- Dominican men's lacrosse traveled down south Saturday afternoon to square off against the Golden Eagles of Concordia University Irvine in their regular season finale. Freshman Will Elfline led the Penguins with three goals against the Golden Eagles defense, but it wasn't enough as CUI would come out victorious 17-8.

Fellow freshman Chase Pacenta got Dominican on the board early in the first quarter when he called his own number for a sweet looking goal. Pacenta, the Colorado native, finishes the year with 26 goals in his first collegiate season which is also a team high.

Elfline scored his first of three goals on the day in the first quarter when he received a nice dish from teammate Jason Eide finishing the play by rocketing one past the goalie for the Pengs second goal of the day. CUI would go on a run after that to extend the lead, but Eide halted the momentum scoring back-to-back goals cut the deficit to 8-6 heading into halftime.

On the defensive side of the ball for the Pengs starting goalie Tristan Lawrence collected 14 saves to go along with a team high five ground balls. Wyatt Anderson gave the CUI offense fits all game long as he led the team with four caused turnovers with Nicholas Woodard right behind him with two.

The Penguins will now gear up for conference championships as they head out to face CMU April 24th in the Peach Belt Rocky Mountain Division Championships at 3 pm PST.
