Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Penguins fall to Hawks

KANSAS CITY, Mo.- The Dominican women's lacrosse team continued their Midwest road trip with a match-up against the Hawks of Rockhurst University Saturday morning. The Pengs were able to cut the deficit down to four late in the third period, but the Hawks were able to pull away winning this one 18-8.

Sophomore Julianne Lane led the way for Dominican in the scoring department finishing the game with two goals while also dishing out an assist. Dominican's offense was able to break through from the Hawks defense early on, but they weren't able to capitalize with their shots. Junior Taylor Pieri got the scoring started for the Pengs midway through the first quarter when she received a nice dish from freshman Kyra Evans finishing the play with a missile past the goalie.

Towards the end of the first, junior Olivia Johnson found the back of the net off a feed from Lane cutting the Hawks lead down to one. Then during the final minutes of the half, the Pengs would go on a nice 3-0 run started by Evans calling her own number and putting one past the goalie. After halftime, the Hawks would stiffen up their defense only allowing one goal.

Natalie Oyler stood strong in the cage for Dominican collecting a game high 16 saves while leading the team in ground balls with four. Lusi Tapasa led the team in forced turnovers collecting three.

The Penguins will be back in action March 31st as they travel to Missouri Western State at 2 p.m. CDT.
