SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican women's tennis swept American River College 7-0 Friday on Senior Day at Castellucci Family Tennis Center.
The Penguins (11-3) got off to a strong start as Sofia Acuña and Bernadine Salvatierra raced out to a large lead before taking No. 3 doubles 6-1. Astrid Craig and Logan Koitka were close on their tails as they took No. 2 doubles 6-1 to secure the doubles point for Dominican a half hour into the dual match. Audrey Rafols and Gina Dudley teamed up once again for a 6-2 victory in No. 1 doubles to complete the sweep of the doubles portion of the match.
Deepalakshmi Vanaraja opened an early lead in No. 4 singles as she cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory to keep the momentum rolling. No. 47 Maria Gavrilov had a strong opening set on her way to a 6-0, 6-2 victory in No. 3 singles and Koitka provided the clinching point on her senior day with a 6-0, 6-3 victory in No. 5 singles. Gina Dudley also celebrated her senior day with a pair of victories as she claimed No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-1, while No. 17 Rafols overcame a slow start to win 6-2, 6-3 over the Otters' (14-1) Aileena Hu on the top court. Bernadine Salvatierra completed the sweep with a 6-3, 6-3 victory on the sixth court.
The Penguins turn their attention back to its conference foes to close out the season beginning Saturday as it travels to Rocklin to face Jessup at noon PDT at Wolverine Tennis Complex.
