SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – No. 43 Dominican women's tennis made quick work of Chaminade in a 7-0 victory on Wednesday at Castellucci Family Tennis Center.
The Penguins (9-3) mixed up its doubles pairings looking for a spark to start the match and quickly got one as
Gina Dudley and
Deepalakshmi Vanaraja claimed No. 3 doubles 6-0 in the first 15 minutes of the match.
Maria Gavrilov and
Lorenza Foster-Simbulan were not far behind clinching the doubles point for Dominican with a 6-0 win on the top court, while Sofia Acuña and
Audrey Rafols completed the doubles sweep with a 6-2 victory in No. 2 doubles.
Things continued to roll quickly as
Bernadine Salvatierra claimed No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-0 with Foster-Simbulan close behind with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of her own on court five. Acuña had the honors of claiming the clinching point for the Penguins with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in No. 2 singles with
Logan Koitka adding one last 6-0, 6-0 sweep on court four. No. 11 Rafols dropped one game in the opening set at No. 1 singles to the Silverswords (0-7) Kylie Ye, but despite the blemish cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory to win her eighth consecutive singles match.
Astrid Craig capped the sweep of Chaminade with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Berylin Lau in No. 3 singles in the tightest match of the day.
Dominican will hit the road to take on University of Hawai'i at Hilo in a neutral site match on Saturday at 1 p.m. PDT at Haak Tennis Complex in Fresno.
