UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich.- Dominican women's lacrosse wrapped up their Midwest road-trip in style, cruising past Saginaw Valley 21-3 Thursday afternoon. This marks the Pengs second consecutive game scoring 20 plus points.
Junior
Taylor Pieri opened the scoring in this one when she called her own number getting past the Cardinals defense finishing the play by putting one in the back of the net. Then a minute later, it was Pieri again who found a soft spot in the defense for a quick goal. Sophomore
Stella Artukovich saw Pieri's quick goals and said watch this, as she would score the next two goals giving the Pengs an early 4-0 lead nine minutes into the game.
Saginaw Valley had no answer to the Pengs offensive firepower with six players recording more than one goal and 10 players finishing the game with at least one goal. Artukovich,
Morgan Newkirk, and
Julianne Lane all posted three goals each which was one shy of Pieri's game high of four. Senior leader
Brooke Vafi helped orchestrate the offense for the Pengs as she dished out three assists to go with two goals of her own.
Not only has the Dominican offense been playing lights out, but their defense has been clamping up opponents all season. The Pengs only allowed three goals which is a season high and marked their third consecutive game holding opponents to five goals or less. Junior
Katherine Chavez got the start at goal making life tough for the Cardinals. Lane was everywhere on the field today as she collected a team high five ground balls while Dominican had four players tied with two caused turnovers apiece.
The Penguins will return home Tuesday, March 18
th when they host Lewis University at 3 p.m.
