SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.- Dominican men's basketball crossed over the Golden Gate bridge Wednesday night for a cross-town PacWest showdown with the Urban Knights of Academy of Art. The Urban Knights would score the first points of the game, and not look back as they would be victorious in this one 75-62.
Darius Best, the junior out of North Carolina, led the Penguins in the scoring department dropping 16 points while dishing out three assists. Best gave Academy of Art fits all night with his smooth looking jumper and facilitating the offense for his teammates. Towards the end of the first half, Best sparked a run to cut into the deficit when he finished off a nice driving lay-up and then dished out a nice assist to
Nathan Ilunga.
Speaking of Ilunga, the senior finished the night second on the team in scoring posting 11 points on an efficient 5-7 from the field. His counterpart down low,
Sargent Jeffery finished with 10 points to go along with a couple of steals. Dominican finished the game with 36 points in the paint against the Urban Knights, and the duo of Ilunga and Jeffery were a huge reason why.
Jordan Archie rounded out the top four on the night for Dominican as he collected 10 points while draining two three-pointers.
Academy of Art only had a one-point lead coming out for the second half, but turnovers cost the Pengs. The Urban Knights were able to force 16 turnovers which resulted in 19 points. Every time the Pengs would find some momentum in the second half, Robbie Armbrester had an answer.
Next up for Dominican is a home game against Biola Feb. 8
