SAN RAFAEL, Calif.- Dominican men's basketball team hosted the Eagles of Biola Saturday afternoon. This game was back-and-forth for most of the 40 minutes of play, but it was the Eagles that would come out victorious 72-65.
The Penguins were the first ones to open the scoring in this one as redshirt sophomore
Sargent Jeffery showed off his mid-range game draining a 10-foot jumper. Then on their ensuing offensive possession Jeffery received a nice dime from teammate
Darius Best who finished the play with a strong driving lay-up. Dominican's game plan was to look to score early and often in the paint, and they did just that against the Eagles.
Best, who was facilitating for others early on, scored on a tough drive to cap off three straight scoring possessions for the Pengs midway through the first half. Junior
Omari Davis gave Dominican an instant spark of energy when he subbed in draining a well-timed three while also play suffocating defense on the other end. The Pengs fed of this energy as they started to clamp up on the defensive end forcing the Eagles to take difficult shots.
Both teams traded buckets towards the end of the first half with junior
Thomas Oosterbroek heating up as he closed the half with a quick six points. Dominican headed into the lockers for halftime only trailing by four.
When the teams came back onto the court for the second half, fellow junior
Jorge Ochoa started the half on a roll. Ochoa showed off his versality scoring on a sweet lay-up for the first points of the half then knocked down a deep three-pointer to keep the momentum on the Penguins side.
Ochoa finished the game as the leading scorer for the Pengs dropping 14 points while going perfect from the charity stripe. Oosterbroek was right behind him with 12 points on the day to go along with six rebounds.
Midway through the second half the Eagles caught fire on the offensive side jumping out to a nine-point lead. However, the Pengs didn't give up as Jeffery finished off a big lay-up to cut the deficit to two with two minutes left. The Eagles finished off timely buckets when it counted the most late in the ball game to secure the victory.

th when they host HPU at 7:30 p.m.
