SALT LAKE CITY, Utah.- Dominican women's lacrosse traveled to Utah Tuesday night to square off against the Griffins of Westminster University. The Penguins were able to net 12 goals, but Westminster was able to pull of the 19-12 victory.
Junior
Brooke Vafi got the scoring started in this one as she called her own number two minutes into the game giving the Penguins an early 1-0 lead.
Stella Artukovich collected three goals on the night and two of those came in the first quarter. With two minutes left in the quarter, the San Diego native zoomed past the Griffins defense for a goal knotting things up at 4.
Graduate student
Jacelyn Lazore, Artukovich, and
Brooke Vafi each had three goals a piece. Lazore scored her first goal of the game in the second quarter off a beautiful pass from sophomore
Taylor Pieri. Pieri would also score a goal of her own. The Penguins would end the second quarter strong getting two goals within the last two minutes.
Siena Fairbanks found the back of the net with 13 seconds left in the quarter to cut the deficit to 9-8.
The Griffins would come out clicking on all cylinders in the second half making it hard for the Penguins. Lazore and
Sydney Gunnerson both called their own number late in the fourth quarter to get them to 12 goals on the night.
Dominican will play their last game of the season Friday April 26
th as they travel to Colorado Mesa University at 12 p.m. MDT.
