GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Dominican women's lacrosse wrapped up their 2024 season with a Friday afternoon match-up against Colorado Mesa University. The Pengs posted 10 goals in this one making it eight straight games scoring double-digits, but the Mavericks were able to get the victory winning 19-10.
Junior
Brooke Vafi led Dominican on offense finding the back of the net three times while
Stella Artukovich was second on the team with multiple goals. Graduate student
Jacelyn Lazore got the scoring started for the Penguins as she called her own number sprinting past the Mavericks defense cutting the deficit to 2-1. Vafi scored her first goal late in the first quarter then again in the second quarter. Going into halftime, the Mavericks held a 10-3 lead.
The Penguins, playing in their final game of the season, left everything out on the field in the second half. They scored three goals in the first half, but the offense picked it up and found the back of the net seven times in the second. Artukovich started the half with a goal,
Taylor Pieri collected a goal and then dished out a goal to teammate
Sydney Gunnerson, and
Macie Wood called her own number late in the fourth quarter.
