FRESNO, Calif. – Dominican women's tennis claimed its fourth consecutive victory Thursday as it topped Colorado Mesa 4-0 at Haak Tennis Complex.
Audrey Rafols and
Gina Dudley got the Penguins (9-4) off to a strong start as they claimed No. 1 doubles over the Mavericks' (9-11) Issy Coman and Makenna Livingston. The other two doubles matches remained tight throughout with No. 2 doubles all knotted up 6-6 and headed to a tiebreaker.
Maria Gavrilov and
Haley Garcia were able to close out the 7-5 victory on No. 3 doubles to give Dominican the doubles point and leave the other court unfinished.
Deepalakshmi Vanaraja kept the momentum rolling for the Penguins in singles play as she topped Kristen Thomas 6-3, 6-2 to open the scoring. Gavrilov was close behind defeating Devyn Rodriguez 6-1, 6-2 putting Dominican just one singles victory from the clinching point. Dudley and Rafols each outlasted their CMU counterparts 7-5 in No. 1 and No. 2 singles to give the Penguins the advantage heading to the crucial second sets. Dudley won the race to clinch as she topped Livingston 6-2 in the second set to end the match.
Dominican will return to the court Friday to take on Metro State as it concludes its neutral site matchups at Haak Tennis Complex.
