SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican women's tennis claimed its third consecutive victory topping UC Santa Cruz 5-2 Sunday afternoon at Castellucci Family Tennis Center.
Audrey Rafols and
Gina Dudley pushed the Penguins (8-4) ahead early as the duo defeated Sara Beckman and Natalie Sprenger 6-3 in No. 1 doubles.
Maria Gavrilov and
Logan Koitka clinched the doubles point for Dominican as they won No. 3 doubles 6-4 over their Banana Slug (7-3) counterparts.
Sprenger gave UCSC the first point in singles as she won 6-3. 6-0- on the third court but Dominican grabbed back the momentum as Gavrilov won 6-4, 6-0 in No. 2 singles. Rafols followed by claiming No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-2 over Beckman to put the Penguins a point from victory.
Zoe Coggins delivered the clinching point winning 6-2, 6-2 on court four.
Ana Rios claimed the last point for Dominican as she battled back to defeat Melody Ghaffari 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 in No. 5 singles.
Dominican will head to Fresno this week for a pair of neutral site matchups with conference foes from Colorado beginning with Colorado Mesa on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Haak Tennis Complex.
