SALT LAKE CITY — Dominican men's lacrosse started strong, but eventually fell 19-7 Sunday to Westminster at Dumke Field.
Kenny Seiler broke the 100 point career mark with an assist late in the game for Dominican.
Caelan Briggs opened the scoring for the Penguins finding the back of the net off an assist from
Brennan Krebs 34 seconds into the match. Dominican used their energy to apply continued pressure to the Westminster defense as goals by
Luke Vando, Krebs and
Jason Eide stretched the lead to 4-0 with 8:45 remaining in the quarter. The Griffins rallied with two goals of their own, but
Per-Anders Olters responded to with another goal for the Penguins to briefly halt their momentum. Dominican held its lead for the remainder of the period leading 5-4 heading to the second.
Westminster recalibrated and tied the score 5-5 to start the second period before pushing ahead to take their first lead at 6-5. Dominican fought to keep the score close and a goal by
Jesse Fisher bridged the gap back to one at 7-6, but the Griffins offense found success throughout the remainder of the period to end the first half with an 11-6 lead.
Penguin turnovers in the third period allowed Westminster to stretch their lead to 16-6 and it wasn't until late in the fourth that Fisher of Dominican would find scoring success again. However, the single goal wasn't enough to keep up with the Griffins who carried their lead to an eventual 19-7 victory.
Dominican will be back in action at home Sunday to face Sonoma State at 1 p.m. on Kennelly Field.
