SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican women's tennis rolled to its first sweep of the season 7-0 over Westmont College in the first matchup between the new conference foes.
Audrey Rafols and
Gina Dudley opened doubles play with a 6-2 victory for the Penguins (6-4) over the Warriors' (1-10) Francesca Aguirre and Olivia Madarang.
Carolina Guerrero and
Deepalakshmi Vanaraja were not far behind in claiming No. 2 doubles 6-3 for Dominican over Sophia Ostovany and Sabina Salva of Westmont to claim the doubles point.
Rafols kept things rolling in the second round as she dispatched Aguirre 6-1, 6-0 on the top court with Vanaraja claiming court four shortly afterwards 6-0, 6-0 over Salva.
Maria Gavrilov sealed the team victory for the Penguins with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Ostovany. Guerrero added a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Justie Spitzer to keep the momentum rolling with Dudley finishing soon thereafter with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Madarang in No. 2 singles.
Astrid Craig made it a clean sweep as she held off Liska Knight 6-4 in the first set before cruising to a 6-1 victory in set 2 to claim the match.
Dominican will hit the road to take on Stanislaus State on Saturday at Noon at Stan State Tennis Courts.
