Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Penguins fight Sea Lions to the end, lose 72 to 65

Nathan Ilunga posts a double-double for Dominican

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican men's basketball welcomed in Point Loma on Thursday night for a PacWest clash. The two teams met earlier this month down in San Diego in a close affair, and this one was no different.

Both teams matched one another to begin the game. Ilunga was a force to be reckoned with all night as he went for 15 points while grabbing 10 boards. The big man also hit both of his three-pointers on the night showing the Sea Lions he's not just a post player.

The game was tied at 33 when both teams headed to the lockers for halftime. A point of emphasis early on for the Penguins was to bring the intensity on both sides of the court, and they did just that in the first half. Dominican would crash the boards hard and had a style of urgency on offense.

Ilunga and senior Marcus McCutchen would lead the Penguins in the rebound category grabbing 10 and 7. Dominican would go on to outrebound the Sea Lions going for 36 rebounds. McCutchen ended his night with 11 points on 5 for 9 from the field.

Late in the game, seniors Garrett Siebels and Dale Currie were keeping the Penguins within striking distance with their timely shots. Siebels would go for 13 points on the night with two long balls while Currie posted 11 points while dishing out seven assists.

The Penguins will wrap up their season as they host Biola at 3:30 p.m. for Senior Day.
