SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican women's tennis defeated Fresno Pacific 4-3 Friday afternoon giving them four straight victories to start the season. After losing the doubles point, the Penguins didn't flinch as they would go on to secure the four points in singles play.
Carolina Guerrero and
Deepalakshmi Vanaraja battled tough in their doubles match and ended up winning 6-4. However, the Sunbirds would go on to win the next two doubles matches giving them an early 1-0 lead.
All that changed when the Penguins got into singles play. Junior
Audrey Rafols made quick work of her opponent and then teammate
Astrid Craig won both her matches 6-0. Dominican would take the lead on
Gina Dudley's 9-7 and 6-4 victory in No. 2 singles. Graduate student Guerrero would secure the four points which gave the Penguins the victory when she won her singles match in three sets.
Dominican is right back at it tomorrow when they host Hawaii Hilo at 11 a.m.
