Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Penguins Win Third Straight, Defeat Warriors 94-92

Johnson and Siebels combine for 56 points

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican men's basketball defeated Westmont 94 to 92 Saturday afternoon in what was an offensive shoot-out until the final buzzer went off. This victory now gives the Penguins a three-game win streak and inches them a step closer to the last spot in the PacWest tournament with five games left.

The Penguins came out firing away on offense early and often. Brendon Johnson and Garrett Siebels combined for 56 points and 11 three-pointers. Siebels couldn't miss in the first half stepping back multiple times from deep while also tearing up the Warrior's defense with his driving lay-ups. The Petaluma native finished the game with a season-high 25 points on 10 for 16 from the field.

Johnson was the leading scorer of the game going for a season-high 31 points while knocking down six three-pointers. The Montana native was all over the court for the Penguins orchestrating the offense while also putting in the work on the defensive side of the ball coming away with three steals.

This game was back and forth all afternoon. When one team would knock down a shot, their counterpart would come down the court and drain a basket to answer. Both teams were deadly from deep each hitting 14 long balls. Westmont boasted a nine-point lead at halftime, but Johnson and Siebels would get help from their teammates in the second half.

Carter Plousha collected his fourth double-double of the season going for 11 points and 10 rebounds while junior Nathan Ilunga finished with nine points with most of his buckets coming in the second half.

Dale Currie hit some big buckets in the second half finishing with 16 points. No shot was bigger than when the game was tied at 92 with 15 seconds left and the ball was in Currie's hands. Currie drove it to the hole splitting two defenders and threw it up for a lay-up causing the Warriors defender to be called for goaltending giving the Penguins the last second lead.

The Penguins will look to continue this momentum as they play at Fresno Pacific Feb.15th at 7:30 p.m.
