Penguins Win Streak Snapped

Penguins have four scorers in double-digits

SAN DIEGO, Calif- Dominican women's basketball traveled down south Thursday night to square off against the Sea Lions of Point Loma Nazarene University. PLNU outlasted the Penguins 72 to 62.
Both teams came in hot with the Penguins boasting a league best eight-game win streak while the Sea Lions had a three-game win streak.

In the first period Dominican found itself in unfamiliar territory. Prior to Thursday's PacWest clash with PLNU, the Penguins had led or been tied in the last 115 minutes of game action. However, they found themselves down early to the Sea Lions.

Dominican's offense got off to a slow start which meant the defense had to pick-up the slack. Sophomore Keyonee Neal swatted away her 21st block of the season in the first period which is good for fourth overall in the conference. The Rohnert Park native led all scorers in the first half with 10 points. Neal finished with a game-high 17 points and nine rebounds.

In the second period the Sea Lions had jumped out to an early nine-point advantage. Dominican quickly answered with a 5-0 run led by Neal and then later went on an 8-0 run led by senior leader Jenna Duley. Duley finished the night with 11 points.

The Penguins had 12 turnovers which cost them in the first half, but they went 5 for 10 from long range which kept them within striking distance. Neal and junior Alaiyah San Juan finished the game with three longs balls a piece. San Juan posted 11 points to go along with her three long balls on the night.

PLNU started the second half the same way they came out in the first, on fire. Midway through the third period the Penguins found themselves down by double-digits. However, they wouldn't go down without a fight.

Freshman Adia Walker had a big second half going for eight points and finishing the night with 10 points to go along with five rebounds.

The Penguins will look to bounce back as they travel to APU Saturday Feb. 3rd at 1: 15 p.m.
