Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Pengs hang tough, fall to Otters

Four players go for double-digit points

SAN RAFAEL, Calif.- Dominican men's basketball hosted the Otters of CSU Monterey Bay in the Igloo Wednesday night, on Thanksgiving Eve. It was the Otter who came out hungry for that Thanksgiving feast as they would end up dropping the Penguins 78 to 68.

The Penguins got off to a solid start as senior Nathan Ilunga had the first bucket of the night when showed off his mid-range by hitting nothing but net. Junior Jorge Ochoa would then score on back-to-back possessions giving the Pengs an early 12-6 lead. Ilunga would finish the night with eleven points while Ochoa posted 13 points to go along with six rebounds.

Midway through the first half Dominican got more offensive help in the form of Jaayden Bush and Thomas Oosterbroek as they provided to give the Otters defense fits all night long. Bush showed off his whole arsenal dropping sweet floaters and jump shots leading to a team high 16 points. Oosterbroek did it on both ends finishing with a double-double. This duo led the Pengs to their biggest lead in the first half which was eleven.

Late in the half, the Otters started to heat up and the main factor was Jaden Tengan. Tengan hit a couple of threes which got him into the groove and before you knew it the Otters were leading to close out the half. However, there was one bright spot as the Pengs went into halftime. After a missed shot from the Otters, with less than a second left on the clock, Oosterbroek grabbed the rebound and just flung the ball over his head for a full court toss. The ball miraculously hit nothing but net for possibly the highlight of the year, and a buzzer beating thee-pointer for Oosterbroek.

The Penguins didn't have an answer for Tengan all night as he went for 32 points to lead them to victory. Every time Dominican would creep back into some momentum in the second half, Tengan and the Otters would answer with a bucket.

Dominican will be back on the court Saturday Nov. 30th as they host Lincoln University at 3:30 p.m.
