Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Pengs halt losing skid, defeat Urban Knights in four sets

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.- Dominican women's volleyball had a lovely trip over the Golden Gate bridge for a conference showdown against cross-town rivals Academy of Art Wednesday night. Dominican beat the Urban Knights three sets to one sweeping the season series for the first time since 2017.

The Penguins were led by the duo of Reagan Macha and Camille Rivers who would both post double-doubles on the night. Macha led the offensive attack for Dominican slamming home a game high 12 kills while digging 12 balls. Rivers, the Vacaville native, was dishing out dimes all over the court collecting 20 assists to go along with 1o digs. This also marked her 16th straight match posting double-digit assists.

Academy of Art would win a back-and-forth battle in the first set by two points, but that was all the Pengs would give them. Junior Avery Schneider slammed home the first points for Dominican in the second set and they wouldn't look back. Schneider gave the Urban Knights fits on defense all night as she would finish the match with a game high seven blocks and seven kills. The seven blocks are a season best for Schneider. Macha would go on to have the last three kills for Dominican wrapping up the second set victory by three points.

In the third and fourth set the Penguins hit their groove as they would win by eight and seven points. They would also get some help from a couple of their talented freshmen. Kali Young and Melena Wong played key roles for Dominican in this one as Young was second on the team in kills with nine while Wong was right behind Rivers in assists with eleven.

The Penguins will be back in action this Saturday Nov. 16th at 1 p.m. as they host Menlo College.
