Penguins tango with Sunbirds

FRESNO, Calif. – Dominican women's volleyball traveled down south Saturday afternoon for a PacWest clash against Fresno Pacific. The Penguins height played a big factor in this one as they held the advantage over the Sunbirds in the blocks department coming down with 11 while FPU had three. FPU would end up coming away victorious winning three sets to zero.

The first set was back-and-forth with no lead bigger than three. Graduate student Reagan Macha continued her dominance in the kills department for the Penguins picking up a couple in the first set. Macha would end the day going for 12 kills and eight digs. Things got tight down the stretch with both teams tied at 24, and then freshman Reese Bozak came up clutch for the Pengs with a big kill tying things up at 25. Bozak would finish the day with four kills. The Sunbirds wound up locking in winning the first set 29-27.

Dominican started having a block party the next couple sets. Sophomore Ashlyn Daugherty was having her way all day grabbing four blocks while Macha was just behind her with three. Freshman Kali Young got the invite to the block party as she rounded out the top three with two huge blocks of her own to go along with seven kills. Senior Camille Rivers was assisting her teammates left and right dishing out 18 which marked her 8th consecutive game with 10 or more assists.

The Penguins will be back on the court Saturday Oct. 19th as they host Jessup University for their Dig Pink match. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to help the Pengs fight breast cancer, to donate please click HERE.
