The Penguins jumped out the gates fast as they scored the first two points in the first set. This set was back-and-forth with no lead bigger than three. Graduate student
Reagan Macha lead Dominican in kills in the first set and would end the night leading in overall kills slamming home 22. Macha had an important kill late in the set when she took a pass from
Camille Rivers and put it perfectly past the Warriors defense for the 24
th point. The first set went a little extra with the Penguins winning it 27 to 25 thanks to Rivers quick skip set kill that caught the opponent sleeping.
The second set was similar to the first with Dominican jumping out to an early lead. Freshman
Kali Young led the Penguins offense in the second set collecting multiple kills. Young would end the night collecting 12 kills which was second on the team and marks a season high for her. Sophomore
Braenwynne Matthews made her presence felt for the Penguins as she slammed home 11 kills. Just like the first set, the second set would need a little more time with the Penguins winning the set 28 to 26. It was Matthews who capped it off by taking a beautiful pass from
Rein Bocage and slammed it home. Speaking of Bocage, she was all over the court in this one digging out a game high 36 digs.
Dominican was a force to be reckoned with in the blocks department all night.
Avery Schneider and
Ashlyn Daugherty led the team with six each while Matthews collected five of her own.
Jessup would go on to win the next three sets to claim a 3 to 2 victory.
Dominican will be back on the court Oct.24
th at 6 p.m. when they travel to Menlo College
