Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Pengs hang tough with Golden Eagles

SAN RAFAEL, Calif.- Dominican women's volleyball hosted Concordia University Irvine Thursday night for a PacWest showdown. The Penguins came into this match with a couple of conference wins to their resume and came out with great energy looking for their third. Dominican fought tough until the final whistle, but it was the Golden Eagles who grabbed the victory winning 3 sets to 0.

The Penguins came out aggressive in the first set jumping out to an early lead. Sophomore Ashlyn Daugherty made her presence felt early as she swatted down an early block. She would finish the night with three. Graduate student Reagan Macha gave the Golden Eagles fits all night as she was slamming home the kills for Dominican. The Texas native led the Penguins in kills posting nine to go along with seven digs.

Macha and Daugherty led Dominican to a five-point lead midway through the first set forcing CUI to burn a timeout. That timeout proved to be beneficial as the Golden Eagles would rally to make it a close ending to the set. Junior Avery Schneider took a pass from Camille Rivers and put it perfectly pass the outstretched arms of the defender to give the Pengs a 23-22 lead. Rivers led the team in assists dishing out eleven.
I
n the third set, it was CUI who jumped out to an early lead. Dominican wasn't going to make it easy as they fought their way back led by senior Rein Bocage who was everywhere tonight. Bocage led the Penguins in digs going for 23 which marked her 11th time this season going over double-digit digs. Freshman Chloe Cruz was second on the team with 11 while dishing out five assists.

Dominican will now travel to Fresno Pacific Saturday to take on the Sunbirds at 2 p.m.
