Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Penguins keep the wins rolling

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Keyonee Neal scored a season high in points as Dominican women's basketball claimed a 75-57 victory over Concordia University Irvine on Saturday afternoon at the Conlan Center.

It was the second consecutive game the Penguins (16-3, 9-2 PacWest) never trailed in victory. Dominican has now led or been tied for the past 115 minutes of action.

Neal finished with 21 points, four rebounds and three steals. Jenna Duley added 15 points and Alex Salise chipped in 14 in one of the best all around performances of the season for the Penguins. Teagan Thurman finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Golden Eagles (9-9, 7-5 PacWest).

Salise and Neal led the way in the early moments of the game as Salise slashed to the basket for an acrobatic layup to start the game while Neal added one of her own on the next trip down the floor. Salise knocked down a 3-pointer from the right wing to keep the offensive charge going and then found Neal for an easy layup as the Penguins took a 13-3 layup within the first five minutes of action. The teams traded buckets for the remainder of the period and Domincian took a 23-15 lead into the second.

CUI scored the first four points of the second quarter to trim its deficit to four, but Neal and Duley got loose for a pair of layups to quickly return the lead to eight with seven minutes left in the half. Duley then scored the final five points of a 7-0 run knocking down a corner 3-pointer to push the lead to 34-22 at the halfway point of the period. The Golden Eagles were able to get the lead back to single digits and held it there until halftime as the Penguins took a 38-32 lead into the break.

Salise once again provided the spark to open the new half as she swept down the lane for a hoop and the harm before adding another layup to push the lead back into double digits. Neal capped off the 7-point swing with a pair of makes from the charity stripe to make it 45-32 with 7:14 remaining in the period. Dominican continued to slowly build on its lead reaching 15 points on a deep 3-pointer by Andraya Perez.

Dominican never let the lead drop below double digits again as its defense continued to frustrate CUI on the way to an 18-point victory.

The Penguins will hit the road again next week as it travels to Point Loma Nazarene University for a game Thursday at Golden Gymnasium at 5:30 p.m. PST.
