HONOLULU, Hawaii- Dominican men's basketball wrapped up their three-game Hawaii trip with a thrilling overtime victory against Chaminade 78 to 75. It's safe to say head coach
Justin Argenal and company will be happy on their plane back to San Rafael.
This game was back and forth all night from the first tip to the last buzzer. There was no lead bigger than six, and there were 15 times this game was tied.
The Penguins came out ready to play team basketball and it showed on the court as five players were over double-digits in scoring. Senior leader
Marcus McCutchen led the way going for his second double-double of the season dropping 21 points while grabbing 10 rebounds.
Brendon Johnson was behind him with 16 points while going perfect from the charity stripe, and no free throws were bigger when he stepped to the line in overtime and drained two to give the Penguins the three-point victory.
Seniors
Dale Currie and
Garrett Siebels posted 15 and 12 points while combining to hit five three-pointers. Fellow senior
Carter Plousha who played tough defense all night added 10 points of his own to go along with six boards.
In overtime, the Penguins came out like a team that knew they were not going to lose the game. They even had the energy of our women's team who stayed back and cheered them on after their 77-40 victory. McCutchen got things started with smooth jumper and Johnson then followed suit giving them an early four-point advantage.
Defense wins games, and at the end it came down to the Penguins getting one stop for the victory which they did.
