HONOLULU, Hawaii- Dominican women's basketball will fly back to San Rafael one happy team as they went 3-0 on their Hawaii trip. The Penguins took down the Silverswords of Chaminade Monday night 77 to 40 giving them a record of 14-3 and 6-2 in conference play. This 37-point victory was their largest margin of victory this season.
Coming off their honor of being PacWest Team of the Week, the Penguins started this week off strong. Chaminade was able to take a one-point lead early on but that was their only lead of the game. Sophomore
Keyonee Neal got the game started with a lay-up down low and Dominican never looked back. The Penguins held the lead for 36 minutes compared to 13 seconds for the Silverswords.
Mikayla Amoroso found some early buckets and knocked down a three-pointer in the first period. The San Francisco native ended with 10 points while going 4 for 4 from the charity stripe.
The story in this one was junior
Alex Salise who caught fire from deep splashing five three-pointers. Her teammates knew who to dish the ball to once they drove it in the lane, and Salise was there to drain the shot. Salise dropped 15 points on 5 for 6 from deep. Neal was second on the team with 12 points while grabbing eight boards.
Dominican led the Silverswords in every key category such as points from turnovers, paint, second chance, fast break and bench. The Penguins dominated in the paint like they've done all season outscoring Chaminade 34 to 14. Their bench scored 27 points led by senior
Olga Faasolo who dropped eight points with six rebounds.
The Penguins will return home and host Academy of Art Saturday Jan. 20
