Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Penguins Swim Past Sharks 64-51

HONOLULU, Hawaii- Dominican women's basketball team traveled to the Shark Tank Saturday afternoon for a PacWest match-up against Hawaii Pacific. The Penguins came out with a 13-point victory improving their record to 13-3 overall and 6-2 in PacWest play.

Fresh off her double-double Thursday night against Hilo, sophomore Keyonee Neal dropped 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds against the Sharks. Jenna Duley and freshman Adia Walker also went for double-digits in scoring giving HPU a tough time on defense.

Turnovers were an issue for the Sharks when they traveled to San Rafael, and it hurt them again Saturday. The Penguins collected 11 steals forcing HPU into 17 turnovers on the day.

This game was back-and-forth in the first half with Dominican jumping out to an early lead to close the first period. Olga Faasolo and Walker brought added energy to the second unit combining for 18 points. Walker went 5 for 7 from the field in the first half and Faasolo was too much inside for the Sharks.

Coming out of halftime, Neal and Duley started heating up along with the teams overall defensive effort. On the offensive side of the ball, Duley was pushing the pace as she raced past Shark defenders for multiple lay-ups. Neal was mixing in jumpers along with post moves that couldn't be stopped ending the day two rebounds shy of another double-double. Junior Alex Salise contributed with a timely three in the second half giving her nine points on the day.

On defense, the Penguins were closing out hard on the perimeter not allowing a three-pointer in the second half. They also tightened up their defense in the paint swatting away five blocks on the day.

The Penguins are now 2-0 on their Hawaii road trip and will wrap up with Chaminade Jan. 15th at 5:30 HST. Head coach Tim LaKose understands how important this trip is.

"I've loved the effort and execution our ladies have shown over the course of this Hawaii trip," LaKose said. "It was great having President Pitchford and John Allen with us so far on this trip, our team is thankful for the support".
