HONOLULU, Hawaii- Dominican men's basketball team traveled to the Shark Tank Saturday night to square off against Hawaii Pacific. The Penguins ended up dropping this one 83 to 72 but played tough until the final buzzer.
HPU started this game strong coming out firing on offense. The Sharks hit six three-pointers aiding them to a 15-point lead at half. Dominican didn't back down as they had a trio of scorers who went for 14 points each helping them climb back into the game.
Seniors
Dale Currie and
Marcus McCutchen along with junior
Brendon Johnson dropped 14 points each against the Sharks. Currie and Johnson both hit a couple three-pointers while McCutchen was causing havoc down low for the Penguins.
Dominican went on a crucial scoring run to cut a 20-point deficit down to eight points late in the second half. Redshirt freshman
Nanik Tagore and junior
Jett Snure played big roles during that scoring run coming off the bench and playing their season high in minutes. Tagore knocked down a pair of three-pointers while Snure connected on some tough shots.
The Penguins will wrap up their Hawaii trip with a match-up against Chaminade Jan.15
th at 7:30 HST.
