SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican women's soccer brought constant offensive pressure over 90 minutes to earn a 2-0 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills.
The Penguins (1-0-0) finished with 28 shots with 11 on frame while holding the Toros (0-1-0) to two shots with only one on frame.
Dominican sent the ball towards goal early and often with
Tanya Bills narrowly missing the opening goal as she sent a shot from the right side of the box just off the top of the crossbar in the 16th minute. The Penguins continued to bring high pressure and
Miranda Gregory made it pay off as she rushed the keeper and deflected the clearance attempt off her shoulder and into the back netting for the 1-0 Dominican lead.
Carmi Dotario used her speed to constantly press the CSUDH back line as she broke away in the 36th minute and sent a shot on frame but Abigail Escalante went down to her right to make the save and keep the Toros within a goal at the half.
The Penguins continued to force the action on offense in the second half testing Kylie Yuzon who came in at the break for Escalante. Yuzon made two saves and Dominican saw three more shots hit the top woodwork in the first 15 minutes of the second half. Dotario made a beautiful move down the left side then beat her defender as she raced down the end line before crossing the ball back to
Alison McNeal at the penalty spot who buried the shot in the back netting for the 2-0 lead in the 75th minute.
Dominican will return to the pitch on Sunday as it takes on Simon Fraser at noon PDT at Kennelly Field.
