SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – Dominican women's tennis topped UC Santa Cruz 7-2 Saturday afternoon at West Tennis Courts to move back above .500 on the year at 9-8.
The Banana Slugs (5-6) tallied the first victory of the match as Meghana Damojipurapu and Tanner Rowland claimed No. 3 doubles 8-2 but
Carolina Guerrero and
Hannah Lam-Truong leveled the match for the Penguins with an 8-2 win in No. 2 doubles moments later.
Audrey Rafols and
Zoe Coggins handed the advantage to Dominican after doubles as they outlasted Sara Beckman and Natalie Sprenger 8-6 for the victory on the top doubles court.
Sophia Thoring kept things rolling for the Penguins as singles started as she topped UCSC's Sarah Crismon 6-2, 6-0 in No. 6 singles. Lam-Truong then made quick work of Daniela Christian at No. 4 singles in a 6-0, 6-0 sweep. Rafols found herself challenged by Sara Beckman on the top court but she held on for the 6-4, 7-5 victory to give Dominican the 5-1 lead in the match, sealing the victory.
Coggins traded sets with Damojipurapu on her way to a 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 victory while
Haley Garcia tallied the final singles victory of the day for the Penguins 6-2, 7-5 on court five.
Dominican will have one more regular season match before heading to the PacWest Championships as it travels to face Menlo on Thursday at 11 a.m.
