SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican women's tennis claimed its second consecutive sweep with a 7-0 victory Sunday over Chaminade at Castellucci Family Tennis Center.
Sophia Portillos and
Antoinette Schreiber kicked off the afternoon for the Penguins (6-7) on a tear as they quickly topped Emily Ramirez Miranda and Danica Palmer 6-0 in No. 3 doubles.
Zoe Coggins and
Haley Garcia added a 6-1 win on the top court over Molly Cookman and Sydney Danielson of the Silverswords (0-7).
Astrid Craig and
Hannah Lam-Truong were not far behind as they defeated Kirra Carvalho and Berylin Lau 6-1 in No. 2 doubles to complete the sweep of the segment with Dominican leading 1-0 heading to singles.
Coggins got her first start in No. 1 singles of the season and claimed the first point of the portion with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Cookman. Lam-Truong added a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Danielson with Portillos also winning 6-0, 6-0 in No. 6 singles over Ramirez Miranda.
Astrid Craig secured the team victory as she topped Carvalho 6-0, 6-1 in No. 2 singles but Dominican was not done.
Sophia Thoring topped Selena Buttery 6-0, 6-2 on court five while Garcia topped the sweep with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Lau in No. 3 singles.
Dominican will return to the court Wednesday to face Holy Names at 1 p.m. PDT depending on weather.
